I love pizza, but especially when made on a thin and crispy bread and with a lot of ingredients. This month we had a lot of mozzarella and pepperoni at home, so we did not want them to go to waste, and try to make our first home-made pizza.
During a visit to our local supermarket, we bought a pack of grain flour. I was planning to make some bread at home. It sat on the shelf for a while, then we decided to use it for our pizza.
Ingredients:
- 300g. grain flour
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- half a cup of lukewarm water
- 3 tomatoes
- one onion
- 2 green peppers
- 2 leaves of fresh basil
- 4 mozzarella buns
- 10 slices of pepperoni
Method:
- Put the sugar and yeast in the lukewarm water and mix, keep for 15 mins
- Peel the skin of the tomatoes, squash with your hands in a deep bowl
- Slice the onions thin
- Mix flour, olive oil, salt with the lukewarm water with yeast. Add more flour or water as necessary to make a soft bun. Put in a bowl, cover and keep for 1 hour. Let the yeast do their work...
- In a saucer pan, fry the tomatoes, onions, a pinch of salt and another tbsp of olive oil. Let it reduce on small heat for about 15 mins.
- On a wooden board, put some flour. Take your dough and lay on it, open thin.
- Take an oven tray (i suggest Teflon), spread the dough very thin. Open some holes with a fork if you think it is too thick to speed up cooking.
- Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius.
- Spread the tomato sauce over the dough
- Use a grater for the cheese, spread them over the sauce
- Place thin slices of pepperoni, green pepper, basil and green olives if you like over the cheese
- Cook for about half an hour. Cooking time depends on how think your dough is. I suggest to keep it thin. If it is too thick, you may want to cook it a bit first, before putting the other ingredients on it.
