Mushroom Meatballs and Cucumber Side-Dish (Kotlety mielone z pieczarkami i mizeria)

Wow! This is the definitely the longest name for any food. These are two are traditional Polish food and get regularly done in our house.

First, let's talk about the side-dish, mizeria: We need 2 cucumbers, a cup of yoghurt, 2 tbsp cream, dills, a pinch of salt and pepper and a pinch of garlic powder. In Poland, it is made slightly different but these ingredients are easy to find everywhere. Slice the cucumbers thin, you can make this in a grater. Cut the dills thin and then mix everything in a bowl. That simple. This will be our sidedish for the meatballs.

Now the main course.

Ingredients:

- 250g minced meat
- 5 big white mushrooms
- 1 small onion
- A cup of bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt, pepper
- Olive oil

Mehod:

1) Slice the onions thin
2) Clean and dice the mushrooms
3) Put a little olive oil on a pan and heat
4) Place onions and mushrooms in the pan, roast for 10-15 minutes
5) In a bowl, mix the meat, egg, bread crumbs, a pinch of salt and pepper. You may add other spices (thyme, cumin, etc) to your taste. Mix everything well.
6) Add the onion-mushroom mixture into the bowl and mix everything again.
7) Take golf-ball size of the mixture, roll between hands, press from two sides to flatten a little.
8) Place the meatballs on the frying pan. Cook each side for around 5-7 minutes.
9) Take out the meatballs from the heat and rest on a paper towel.
10) Serve with mizeria on the side.

This goes nice with boiled whole potatoes or mashed potatoes. Instead of mizeria these meatballs will also be nice to eat with sauerkraut.

Another nice, simple and tasty food from Poland ;)
